There was a surprise result in Mayaguez where fifth rankedAtleticos (6-11) defeated top-ranked Indios (11-9) 101-87 on Thursday. American forward Jalen Slawson (201-1999, college: Furman) fired 20 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Naturalized American center Antonio Gordon (206-2001, college: Oklah.Christian) chipped in 18 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Point guard Neftali Alvarez (183-1999, college: Southern Miss) produced 15 points and 6 assists and New Zealand forward Samuel Waardenburg (208-1999, college: Miami, FL) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San German maintains fifth position with 6-11 record. Mayaguez lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the second place with nine games lost.
